THE PHRASE WHIRLWIND start took on a new meaning in Castlebar last Sunday when Mayo faced Roscommon in the Connacht minor final.
Fans who streamed into Elvery’s MacHale Park early for the curtain-raiser were treated to two sensational goals as the Mayo minors laid the foundations for an eventual 3-7 to 1-10 triumph.

First up there was this rocket to the net from Mayo corner-forward Darragh Doherty after a superb pass from distance by full-back Sean Conlon in the 6th minute.
And then Mayo full-forward Liam Irwin popped up three minutes later with a couple of outrageous dummies before unleashing a powerful drive to the roof of the net.
