McCoy and eight others banned after Wetherby incident

Nine riders fail to stop despite a yellow flag after a serious injury to Ashburton Lad.

CHAMPION JOCKEY TONY McCoy and eight other riders have been banned for 10 days after they failed to stop in a void race at Wetherby.

The incident occurred  when Ashburton Lad suffered a broken leg during the Betfair Supports Spinal Research Handicap Hurdle.

A yellow flag, denoting a void race, was waved by a course official but the nine jockeys carried on.

Cunning Clarets, ridden by Brian Hughes, came in first, for the record.

The offending riders were McCoy, Hughes, Graham Lee, Danny Cook, Alex Voy, Denis O’Regan, Jonathon Bewley, Paddy Brennan and Brian Toomey.

They will be out between 26 October to 4 November.
