RORY MCILROY WILL tee off alongside South Africa’s Ernie Els and American youngster Rickie Fowler at this week’s British Open, reports Tony Jimenez of Reuters.
The 22-year-old, who has not played competitively since his historic US Open win last month, will be starting at 9.09am on Thursday.
McIlroy is the bookies’ favourite to win the competition, and has the chance to become the youngest player to do so since 1893.
According to The Irish Times, McIlroy’s fellow countryman Darren Clarke will start at 12.59pm, while Pádraig Harrington and Graeme McDowell begin at 1.21pm and 1.43pm respectively.
Meanwhile, last year’s champion Louis Oosthuizen has been drawn to play with Phil Mickelson and Martin Kaymer, while Luke Donald begins his campaign with Sergio Garcia and Ryo Ishikawa.
