Monaghan on the march after first-leg win

Roddy Collins took one step into the Premier Division with this result in Gortakeegan.

RODDY COLLINS’S MONAGHAN United took a major step towards earning promotion with a 2-0 win over Premier Division side Galway United tonight.

The sides were facing off in the first leg of the Airtricity League promotion-relegation play-off.

Michael Isichei put Mons one up after a quarter of an hour before Sean Brennan doubled the lead in the second half.

Sean Gavin was dismissed for the visitors while Eric Foley also walked for Monaghan.

The sides face off again on Friday night in Galway.
