Mourinho walks out on BBC interview after question about Ivanovic's apparent headbutt

Did the Chelsea defender headbutt James McCarthy? “Don’t make me laugh,” says Jose.

CHELSEA MANAGER JOSE Mourinho wasn’t too happy with reporters after last night’s game against Everton at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho’s side strengthened their grip on top spot in the Premier League after an 89th-minute goal from Willian gave Chelsea a 1-0 win, which keeps them seven points clear of Manchester City.

But the main talking point afterwards was an incident involving Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy, who appeared to be on the receiving end of a headbutt from Branislav Ivanovic.

The Serbian defender escaped unpunished, but when asked by the BBC’s Jonathan Pearce if he’d be taking action against Ivanovic, Mourinho said ‘Sorry, see you tomorrow’ and walked out of the interview.

Mourinho was also asked about the incident by BT Sport and said: “Did Ivanovic go in with his head? Don’t make me laugh. Don’t make me laugh.”

In last night’s post-match press conference, the Chelsea boss also made it clear that he would walk out if he was pressed on the incident by newspaper journalists.

“I’m concerned with my reaction because one more question I leave.” Mourinho said. “So I’m more concerned with my reaction because one more question I have to go.”

Ivanovic could still be in line for a retrospective ban for violent conduct, and Everton boss Roberto Martínez was aggrieved that the Serb later headed on the free-kick that eventually led to Willian’s goal.

“If you look at the images, Ivanovic’s behaviour is wrong,” Martínez said. “He grabs him around the neck in a forceful manner, then puts his head against him when James McCarthy didn’t react and, if you want to be on top of the laws, that’s a red card.

“If you want to analyse that action [Ivanovic’s part in the goal] it’s even more hurtful. You don’t want to see teams winning games in that manner.”
