O'Mahony undergoes scan as Munster confirm broken hand for Laulala

The province’s captain will learn the extent of his shoulder injury when he meets a specialist tomorrow.

MUNSTER HAVE CONFIRMED that captain Peter O’Mahony underwent a scan on his shoulder injury this afternoon, although there has been no indication as to how long the back row will be sidelined for.

The 24-year-old will meet with a specialist tomorrow evening, when a time frame for his rehabilitation process should become clearer. O’Mahony injured his left shoulder when stealing a line-out during the first minute of Munster’s 47-23 victory over Toulouse in the Heineken Cup quarter-finals on Saturday.

The blindside flanker battled through the pain until the 19th minute, when he was replaced by man of the match CJ Stander. In that time, O’Mahony made one tackle as well as hitting a number of rucks and being involved in several scrums and line-outs.

Munster say O’Mahony “over-extended” the shoulder when competing successfully on the early Toulouse throw [below].

Meanwhile, the province have also stated that outside centre Casey Laulala broke a bone in his right hand during the comprehensive win at Thomond Park. The former All Black is also set to meet a specialist tomorrow, when he will learn whether or not he will be fit in time for the Heineken Cup semi-final against Toulon on the 27th of April.

Laulala will leave Munster at the end of the season, having agreed a deal to join Jonny Sexton at Racing Métro in the Top 14. The Kiwi has scored four tries for the province in his 48 appearances.

Munster say academy prop Rory Burke, who was injured during the ‘A’ side’s 47-15 humbling by Leinster at Donnybrook on Friday night, has received the “all-clear” on a potential neck injury.
