Pro12: Keatley's 20 points fires Munster past Edinburgh

The result was never in doubt for Rob Penney’s men.

SIX PENALTIES AND a conversion from man-of-the-match number 10 Ian Keatley ensured Munster were always in full control on their way to a 30 -3 win over Edinburgh at Musgrave Park.

The remaining scores came through tries from CJ Stander and Mike Sherry, the the former’s effort the first five-pointer the southern province have managed in Cork this season.

The visitors’ only score of the game was the opening score. Piers Francis slotting over as Munster were reduced to 14 men when BJ Botha collected a yellow card.

Keatley had levelled the scores up before the tight-head returned and added another penalty to give Munster a 6-3 half time advantage.

The fly-half would add another four off the kicking tee after the break before the hosts finally crossed the whitewash in the 68th minute. Centre Ivan Dineen broke down the right flank and kicked ahead as the Edinburgh defence closed off his angle.

First to the ball bouncing in the 22 was Stander, the South African import collecting to continue an impressive try-scoring record in his short time in Ireland.

Five minutes before time, replacement hooker Sherry would round off the win a second try, powering over from close range.
