Neville announced as Sky's newest recruit

The former Manchester United captain will join the broadcaster’s football panel for the 2011-2012 season.

LIVERPOOL FANS, LOOK away now.

Broadcasting behemoth Sky Sports confirmed earlier this morning that Scouse-lover and all-round happy-chappy Gary Neville will be joining their football panel as a colour commentator for the 2011-2012 season.

In February, the former Manchester United and England star announced that he would be hanging up his boots with immediate effect after a series of recurring injuries drastically reduced his playing time over the last few years.

Although it didn’t take long for rumours about Neville’s likely next step to circulate, the move into broadcasting will surprise few considering his outspoken on-field manner as a player.

In a statement released through Sky, the 36-year-old said that he was “thrilled” to be joining up with the organisation.

Sky has always been leading the way in football coverage. Now I have retired this feels like the perfect way for me to stay involved in football and I am looking forward to bringing my 19 years of match experience into television.
