NEWCASTLE UNITED ARE set to increase their offer to bring Liverpool striker Andy Carroll back to the North-East on loan, having seen their first offer rejected on Sunday night.
The Magpies initially only offered to pay part of Carroll’s wages of £80,000-a-week, while they wanted to only pay £13m if the deal were to become permanent.
However, Liverpool are holding out for at least £17m – half of what they paid Alan Pardew’s side in January 2011.
Carroll, granted an extended holiday following his exploits for England at Euro 2012, was initially keen to stay and try to impress the new Reds manager Brendan Rodgers.
However, it is now thought that he would be keen to return home to the Sports Direct Arena, where he scored 11 Premier League goals out of 19 games in the 2010/11 season, before a deadline day move to Anfield.
Liverpool are already looking to next season and recently bought young Italian striker Fabio Borini from Roma, while they have also been linked with a move for Theo Walcott, out of contract next summer at Arsenal.
