YOU KNOW WHAT the difference is between ice hockey and hurling?

Sure, yeah, there’s the ice and, yes, the yanks (and Canadians) wear a bit more padding than our boys, but what really separates the pucks from the sliotars is the goalkeepers. In ice-hockey they almost never score.

Phoenix Coyotes stopper Mike Smith became just the 11th ‘keeper in NHL history to get himself on the score-sheet during Saturday’s win over Detroit Red Wings. And to do it with a touch of skill – lofting the puck two thirds of the way down the rink – before the puck slid into the empty net made it all the sweeter.

This gif is a good illustration of just how close it came to not counting.
