TODAY’S GALWAY SENIOR hurling final has been overshadowed by the death of Galway hurler Niall Donoghue.

The funeral of the Kilbeacanty player took place yesterday and the meeting of Portumna and Loughrea was postponed until today as a mark of respect.

Players from both sides remembered Donoghue when a minutes silence took place before today’s game.

Joe Canning, Damien Hayes and Andy Smith from Portumna along with Loughrea’s Johnny Coen and Paul Hoban were all teammates of Donoghue on the Galway panel that reached the 2012 All-Ireland final against Kilkenny.
