No direction home: Carroll's agent rubbishes Newcastle rumours

Newcastle sources have denied that they are hoping to re-sign Liverpool’s Andy Carroll for £15m this month.

ANDY CARROLL’S AGENT has said that there is “no truth” reports linking the out-of-form Liverpool striker with a cut-price return to Newcastle United.

The Times and The Sun both reported this morning that Newcastle would be willing to welcome Carroll back to the north-east — if they can do a deal for £15m or less in the January transfer window.

But speaking to BBC Sport this morning, the striker’s agent Mark Curtis said that Carroll is happy to stay and fight for his place at Anfield.

Sources close to Newcastle also denied that there has been any contact between the two clubs when contacted by The Telegraph.

Carroll, 23, has only scored four league goals in 25 games since his £35m move to Merseyside 12 months ago and has struggled to hold down a place in Kenny Dalglish’s starting line-up.

However, with Luis Suarez currently serving an eight-match ban for racial comments made towards Patrice Evra, Carroll is likely to feature heavily in Dalglish’s plans over the next few weeks.

“Fortunately for Andy, we have much greater belief in him than a lot of people have who write about him,” Dalglish told reporters last month. “He is not struggling to deal with anything – the perception has not come from anywhere else other than someone’s imagination.”
