NORWICH CITY HAVE released a statement to insist that Wes Hoolahan has not handed in a transfer request.

The 31-year-old Ireland schemer has been the subject of speculation regarding a move to link up with former manager Paul Lambert at Aston Villa this month, with £1.5m reportedly offered to the Canaries for his services.

And although a number of media outlets were claiming that the Dubliner had handed in a transfer request in an attempt to force through the move, Norwich are denying such suggestions.

“City can confirm no transfer requests have been received from any players this season,” the statement reads.

“The Club’s focus is on improving the squad during this transfer window,” said chief executive David McNally.

“As we’ve always said, no players will be sold against our will. We’ve received no transfer requests this season and have no intention of releasing any of our senior players.

“Our focus this January, as with every transfer window, is very much on improving the squad.”
