Opportunity knocks for Jennings as Wallace races the clock

Les Kiss says that David Wallace is only “50-50″ to start against France tomorrow.

SHANE JENNINGS COULD have an opportunity to play himself into Ireland’s World Cup squad tomorrow evening, with defensive coach Les Kiss rating David Wallace at only “50-50″ to start against France.

Wallace, who had been selected at number seven for tomorrow’s penultimate warm-up test, picked up a minor hamstring injury while training at Carton House earlier this week.

The 35-year-old did not feature against Scotland or against France in Bordeaux, but it is hoped that he will be fit in time to get some pre-tournament match practice gainst England next weekend.

His withdrawal leaves the door open for Jennings, who is likely to start tomorrow’s game at openside flanker after he was withdrawn from the Irish Select XV ahead of their 38-3 victory over Connacht last night.

With a number of players anxious to reinforce their claims for a place on the plane, Ireland ran in six tries in front of a crowd of just over 3,000 in Donnybrook, with Mick O’Driscoll, Leo Cullen, Geordan Murphy, Fergus McFadden, Ian Keatley and Denis Hurley all touching down.
