Orla Prendergast becomes first Ireland women's player to join Indian WPL

The 24-year-old has signed for Gujarat Giants.

ORLA PRENDERGAST HAS become the first Irish international to sign for a team in the Indian WPL (Women’s Premier League) following a move to Gujarat Giants.

The all-rounder, who was included in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup team of the tournament in June, was signed during the recent player auction.

The new season of the five-team T20 league will be played across January and February 2027.

Prendergast has plenty of experience playing abroad, having previously appeared in the English league, the Caribbean Premier League and, most recently, in the Women’s Bash League in Australia for the Brisbane Heat.

Prendergast also earned U17 caps for Ireland’s soccer side while playing for Cabinteely FC, before making her first cricket appearance for Ireland in a Twenty20 international against The Netherlands in 2019 at just 17 years old.
