SATURDAY’S BUNDESLIGA ACTION threw up a couple of surprises. Bayern were held scoreless by Hamburg while Borussia Dortmund lost 2-0 to Mainz.
But, the most unexpected development came in Paderborn’s game against Hannover. The newly-promoted side had already won their first three games of the league season and were leading 1-0 when Hannover, in the third minute of injury time, were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position. Their goalkeeper, Ron-Robert Zieler raced forward, adding his weight to the attack.
But, Paderborn cleared their lines, heading the ball towards the edge of the area. Waiting there was Moritz Stoppelkamp who chested it down, turned and thumped it forward. And it arrowed straight to the Hannover net from all of 83 metres!
Unsurprisingly, the goal ensured another victory for the top-flight new boys and it pushed them to the top of the Bundesliga table.
