Torrance and Smyth named Europe's Ryder Cup vice captains

Paul McGinley has called on some old friends for help in Gleneagles.

EUROPE’S RYDER CUP skipper Paul McGinley today named Sam Torrance and Des Smyth as his vice captains for this year’s Ryder Cup.

Scotsman Torrance, 60, played in eight consecutive Ryder Cups and captained Europe’s winning team in 2002, while the 61-year-old Irishman Smyth played in the event twice before serving as vice captain when Europe beat the USA at the K Club in 2006.

The 40th Ryder Cup will be held at Gleneagles in Scotland over the last weekend in September.
