Premier League preview: How to fill out your weekend football accumulator

We’re down to the penultimate weekend in the English top flight and it’s still all to play for at both ends of the table.

All games kick-off Saturday at 3pm unless otherwise stated

West Ham v Tottenham, 12.45pm

WEST HAM MAY be five points clear of the drop zone but they can put any relegation nerves to bed with a result against London rivals Tottenham in the afternoon kick-off.

However, the Hammers come into the game in rotten form having lost their last four games.

Spurs are unbeaten in the same period and, in a week when Tim Sherwood has had to put up with talk that Frank de Boer could be replacing him at the end of the season, they will look to earn a third consecutive victory.

Bet: Draw 5/2

Aston Villa v Hull

Aston Villa are far from safe heading into the third last game of the season and, without a win in their last last seven league games, the pressure is mounting for Paul Lambert.

The Scot has called this meeting with Hull a “cup final” after his side were trounced 4-1 by Swansea last weekend.

Hull, who have an actual cup final to look forward to on 17 May, hold a three-point advantage over their opponents on 37 points, which could prove enough to stay up but Steve Bruce will want to add a couple more to ensure they get over the line.

Bet:  Draw 23/10

Man United v Sunderland

Ryan Giggs’ first game in charge of Manchester United was greeted with a carnival atmosphere during a 4-0 win over Norwich at Old Trafford.

The interim boss is likely to be without Wayne Rooney who is suffering from a bug and a groin problem but Robin van Persie could return from a recent knee injury.

Sunderland find themselves out of the bottom three after incredibly beating Chelsea and Cardiff and drawing 2-2 with Manchester City while Connor Wickham picked up Player of the Month for April after five goals in his last three appearances.

Bet: Man United 2/5

Newcastle v Cardiff

Alan Pardew must be wishing this season would just end already after watching his team go through an awful run of six straight defeats.

Speculation suggests the Newcastle manager could be on his way out of the club at the end of the season with fans planning to voice their discontent with a walk-out.

The Magpies, ninth in the table, host bottom side Cardiff who were well beaten by Sunderland last time out and I can see a home win here.

Bet: Newcastle 11/10

Stoke v Fulham

With seven points out of a possible 12, Fulham have been moving closer to that coveted 17th position but will be kicking themselves after letting a 2-0 lead slip against Hull last weekend.

The arrival of Felx Magath has undoubtedly had a positive effect on the Cottagers but whether the German can pull off a great escape remains to be seen.

Mid-table Stoke have built their season on great home form but lost out to Spurs at the Britannia last Saturday and are without their suspended captain Ryan Shawcross.

Bet: Stoke  11/8

Swansea v Southampton

Two teams with nothing but pride to play for face off at the Liberty Stadium as 12th-placed Swansea entertain Southampton — currently sitting in eighth.

An emphatic win over Aston Villa saw the Swans reach 39 points and Garry Monk will be aiming for a strong finish in a bid to keep the manager’s job on a permanent basis.

The Saints undid Everton’s hopes of Champions League qualification with a 2-0 victory over the Toffees but had two own-goals to thank.

Bet: Draw 23/10

Everton v Man City, 5.30pm

Much of the talk around Sunday’s evening match centres around the fact that Everton could potentially do their city rivals a favour by taking points off Manchester City — who are just three points behind the Reds with a game in-hand.

And Toffees boss Roberto Martinez has insisted that his players won’t roll over when the title-chasing City come to Goodison Park.

I have always felt the relationship between the clubs in the city over many, many years has had incredible chapters and this will be another fascinating chapter,” said Martinez.

“We are a football club and a team that wants to win every single game we go into and we are looking at ourselves.”

Bet: Man City 3/4

Arsenal v West Brom, Sunday 1.30pm

With Everton slipping up, Arsenal are on the verge of securing Champions League qualification for the 17th consecutive season heading into Sunday’s home game against West Brom.

The Gunners have won their last three games, scoring three goals in each, and face a Baggies team who earned a 1-0 win over West Ham at the Hawthorns last week to move up to 36 points.

Back in October, the sides played out a 1-1 draw with Jack Wilshere on target for Arsenal but the English midfielder misses out here with a foot injury.

Bet: Arsenal 2/7

Chelsea v Norwich, Sunday 4pm

Having gone out of the Champions League to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night, Chelsea must refocus their attention on the domestic title race with Norwich at home first up on Sunday.

Defeating Liverpool last Sunday closed the gap at the top to two points but they will have to hope for both the Reds and Man City to drop points in the remaining games if they are to win a first Premier League in four years.

18th-place Norwich have been beaten in their last five with Neil Adams still looking to pick up his first points since taking over from Chris Hughton.

Bet: Chelsea 2/9

Crystal Palace v Liverpool, Monday 8pm

The final Monday night game of the season is a big one as Liverpool plan to bounce back from the loss to Chelsea when they travel to Selhurst Park.

The Reds, currently top, could find themselves third by the time two contenders for Manager of the Year (Brendan Rodgers and Tony Pulis) face off with Man City and Chelsea in action on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Palace saw a five-game winning run come to an end with defeat to Man City last Sunday but the recently-named Manager of the Month can be proud of the job he has done.

Bet: Liverpool 2/5

A bet of €10 will give you a return of €10246.31 in the unlikely event that it comes in.
