Late drama sees Yaya Toure rescue Man City after Swansea fightback

Elsewhere, there were wins for Crystal Palace and Watford.

A STOPPAGE TIME goal from Yaya Toure gave Manchester City a 2-1 win over Swansea at the Etihad after the visitors thought they had rescued a point when Bafetimbi Gomis equalised in the 90th minute.

Wilfried Bony opened the scoring after 26 minutes heading home Jesus Navas’ corner, before Gomis smashed home late on as City looked to have dropped points again.

However, Toure had the last word deep into stoppage time, his shot taking a wicked deflection to fly past Lukasz Fabianski and hand the hosts all three points.

Elsewhere, Yohan Cabaye scored the only goal of the game as Crystal Palace solidified their place in the Premier League’s top six with a 1-0 home victory over Southampton.

The French midfielder struck seven minutes before the break, bagging his fifth goal of the season after fine approach work from Yannick Bolasie.

The win was Palace’s first over the visitors in 13 league meetings dating back to 1991 and Alan Pardew’s men were well worth the points at Selhurst Park.

Southampton did create several decent chances in the first half, but found themselves on the back foot for long periods as their winless run in all competitions was extended to five games.

The hosts, meanwhile, secured back-to-back home league victories for the first time since April 2014 and remain very much in contention for a Europa League place.

Meanwhile, Jack Butland kept West Ham at bay to record his seventh clean sheet of the season and earn Stoke City a 0-0 draw at Upton Park and Odion Ighalo’s early goal was enough to see Watford secure a 1-0 victory at Sunderland to rise to seventh place.
