Queen's University to host 2014 Sigerson and Fitzgibbon Cup finals

The Belfast college will be the venue for the deciders of the prestigious third-level competitions next year.

QUEEN’S UNIVERSITY IN Belfast will host both the Sigerson Cup and Fitzgibbon Cup finals weekends in 2014.

The dates for the finals of the prestigious third-level competitions have yet to be finalised but they will both take place next spring at Queen’s University’s GAA facilities at The Dub in Belfast.

The Sigerson Cup next year will have Dublin IT as the reigning champions while in the Fitzgibbon Cup it is UCC, who are bidding to complete a three-in-a-row, that are the reigning champions.

Dublin IT included inter-county stars like Mayo’s Aidan O’Shea, Kerry’s Darran O’Sullivan, Cavan’s David Givney and Monaghan’s Colin Walshe in that team.

UCC’s triumphant team included Cork senior trio Seamus Harnedy, William Egan and Conor Lehane and Waterford’s Dara Fives and Brian O’Sullivan.

A core of established inter-county players will be involved again in various colleges that will be competing when the 2013-14 third-level GAA season commences tomorrow with the start of the Higher Education GAA Leagues.

There are fifteen competitions to be decided between now and the Christmas break with 300 fixtures pencilled in to be played involving thousands of students from all over the country.
