Irish defender Keogh on the mark as Lampard's Derby beat Preston

Graham Burke and Callum Robinson started for the visitors, who have not won since the opening day of the season.

RICHARD KEOGH’S LATE header sealed victory for Frank Lampard’s Derby County against Preston North End this afternoon, with Ireland international Graham Burke starting for the visitors.

After notching his first Championship goal last weekend, Burke was powerless in preventing his new club slipping to another defeat to Derby, with Preston’s last win at Pride Park coming in September 2002.

On-loan Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount gave the hosts the lead after latching on to David Nugent’s cross before the break.

Irish-qualified Callum Robinson came close to find a leveller for Preston, but was denied by Rams ‘keeper Scott Carson, before Declan Rudd kept Mason Bennett out at the other end.

But Rudd was left helpless by Keogh’s header from Mount’s corner with 12 minutes remaining, as Preston’s winless run extended to four league games.

Victory moves Lampard’s side into sixth, while Preston are sitting in 20th on four points from their opening five outings.

Meanwhile, Leeds United maintained their fine start under Marcelo Bielsa with a 3-0 victory at Norwich City that took their points total to 13 from a possible 15.

Mateusz Klich and Ezgjan Alioski both scored in the opening half-an-hour and Pablo Hernandez added a third in the second half as Leeds moved above Middlesbrough to the top of the Championship standings on goal difference.

Stoke City gained their first victory since they were relegated out of the Premier League by beating Hull City 2-0 at the bet365 Stadium while QPR, who had lost each of their opening four fixtures, claimed all three points against Wigan Athletic.

Andreas Weimann scored the fastest EFL goal of the season so far when the Bristol City striker found the net after just 31 seconds, and that was enough to earn a 1-0 victory at Swansea City.
