Citing concern for Richie McCaw ahead of the Rugby World Cup final

The All Blacks skipper faces an anxious 36 hours to see if he will face disciplinary action.

NEW ZEALAND CAPTAIN Richie McCaw could miss the Rugby World Cup final if a citing officer determines he deliberately elbowed Francois Louw during Saturday’s semi-final win over South Africa.

The All Blacks ran out 20-18 winners in a tense encounter at Twickenham to remain on course for back-to-back World Cup wins.

However, a video clip of a first-half incident, in which McCaw ran past a ruck and seemingly made contact with the head of Louw using his elbow, became a hot topic on social media after the match.

Former England hooker Brian Moore tweeted the footage with the accompanying comment: “This might be interesting.”

The match’s citing officer must decide whether there was any intent on the part of McCaw, or if the 34-year-old’s apparent contact with Louw was accidental.

New Zealand will face Argentina or Australia next Saturday in the final.
