VIDEO: Robbie Keane pays tribute to James Nolan during LA Galaxy match

The Ireland captain held aloft a jersey with ‘RIP James Nolan’ on the back, and spoke with the 21-year-old’s father.

ROBBIE KEANE PAID tribute to late Irish fan James Nolan during LA Galaxy’s 3-0 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday.

The Republic of Ireland captain scored a goal in the match and held up a Galaxy shirt that read ‘RIP James Nolan’ on the back.

Nolan, a 21-year-old from Blessington in County Wicklow, was in Poland to follow the Irish team in Euro 2012.

His body was found on Wednesday in the River Brda in the northern city of Bydgoszcz, four days after he had been reported missing.

Keane said after the game that he had made contact with the father of James to offer his condolences.

”It was a young Irish fan who went to Poland, 21 years of age, and unfortunately drowned. Obviously, the whole country was sad and I called his father today to send my condolences and to say that my thoughts were with him and the family,” said Keane, who intends to send the jersey to Nolan’s family.

”It was just a gesture because the Irish people are very close and they stick with each other through good times and bad times. He was a big, big soccer fan and it was a shame, so it was just a show of respect really.”
