Ronaldo plays down new deal despite speculation

Sorry Man Utd fans but the Madrid star has reportedly agreed a five-year deal.

CRISTIANO RONALDO HAS refused to confirm whether he will stay at Real Madrid, amid claims he has signed a new five-year deal.

Media reports in Spain indicated that the Portuguese had a agreed a new long-term contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, bringing to an end speculation over his future.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a return to former club Manchester United during the current transfer window, but the Spanish press had suggested that any move was now off the table after an agreement until 2018.

However, Ronaldo suggested that talks over an extended stay at Real had not proved conclusive so far.

“The situation still hasn’t been resolved and I don’t think now is the right time to talk about it,” AS quoted the winger as saying.

“Perhaps we’ll be able to give more concrete news about this further down the line but now the only thing in my remit is to train and work.”

Ronaldo was speaking in America, where his side are competing in the International Champions Cup, with Real set to play Chelsea in the final of the pre-season tournament on Wednesday.

The game will mark the first time that Real have come up against former manager Jose Mourinho since his departure at the end of last season to return to the Premier League with Chelsea.

However, Ronaldo is not focused on revenge.

“We are facing Chelsea, not their coach,” he added. “Although it’s like any other game, we want to win.”
