MICHAEL O’NEILL’S NORTHERN Ireland will this evening make history when they face Poland for what will be their first appearance at a major tournament in 30 years.
It will be a momentous, and hugely emotional, occasion in Nice with tens of thousands of supporters having made the trip to France.
The players won’t be short of any motivation when they walk out for the biggest game of their international careers but just in case, Rory McIlroy has sent this pretty inspirational video.
The four-time Major winner was at Windsor Park when Northern Ireland sealed qualification for Euro 2016 and recently met with the squad during their Carton House training camp last month.
With the US Open on the agenda this week, McIlroy’s own playing schedule might prevent him from being in Nice later, although we’re sure his private jet could get him to Pennsylvania in plenty of time ahead of Thursday.
