THE HILLS CRICKET CLUB in Skerries, Co Dublin looks set to host the Irish team when they take on Afghanistan in the Intercontinental Cup this July.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed the schedule for the fourth round of Intercontinental Cup and World Cricket League fixtures this morning.

Ireland will host Afghanistan in a pair of one-day internationals in Clontarf on 3 and 5 July as part of the World Cricket League series, before both sides move out to Skerries for the four-day Intercontinental Cup test from 9-12 July.

Cricket Ireland indicated today that the Hills was still to be confirmed as the Intercontinental Cup venue, but the news was welcomed by some of the Irish team.

“Delighted to see The HillsCC has the 4 day game against Afghanistan,” John Mooney tweeted. “The hospitality is amazing and a great club as well.”

Ireland currently share the lead at the top of the WCL table with Scotland, although the Scots have played a game less.  The top two teams are guaranteed an automatic spot alongside the ICC’s 10 full members at the 2015 Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
