Handle with care: Sunderland hand Saha one-year deal

The former Spurs striker could make his debut for Martin O’Neill’s side against Arsenal on Saturday.

WHILE ALL EYES were on the movement of another left-footed striker, Louis Saha went comparatively under the radar as the 34-year-old free agent signed for Sunderland.

The Wearsiders will be the French striker’s sixth club in England, his first of which was with Sunderland’s arch-rivals, Newcastle.

More recently his associations have been short spells with Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.

With his second signing of the season secure, Mackem boss Martin O’Neill told the club website:

“Louis is a striker whose abilities have been proven at the very highest level and he brings with him a raft of experience of top-flight football.

“I’m sure he will be a great addition to our squad in an area we recognise needs strengthening and I’m delighted we have been able to complete the deal ahead of our first game of the season.”

Saha could make his debut as Sunderland begin their 2012/13 campaign away to Arsenal on Saturday.
