IRELAND’S ANNALISE MURPHY slipped to second in the women’s laser radial  in Weymouth on Friday afternoon.

The 22-year-old sailor, from Rathfarnham in Dublin, won her first four races on the bounce to take the top ranking  early in the regatta before recording eighth and 19th place finishes on Wednesday.

After a rest day yesterday, Murphy was back in action this afternoon and came in at a time of 1:03:49, 28 seconds behind Race 7 winner Xu Lijia of China, in Race 7.

That win meant her net score was 14, putting her eight points ahead of second-placed Belgium’s Evi van Acker. However, in Race 8 she finished in 10th and is now one point behind Van Acker with two races to go tomorrow.

If she does make the final, RTE’s Bryan Dobson has confirmed that the station will show the race live.

Meanwhile, Peter O’Leary and David Burrows have qualified for Sunday’s star class final after finishing seventh in Race 10 and ninth overall today.

In the 49er, Ryan Seaton and Matt McGovern were seventh in Race 10 and15th in Race 11 so are 11th overall.

Ger Owens and Scott Flanigan finished 24th & 25th, meaning they’re 25th overall after four races and, in the men’s laser, James Espey was 28th & 27th – leaving him 38th overall.
