Saints prevent Walsh from securing Swans deal

St Kilda are anxious to retain the services of Tommy Walsh, who is said to prefer a move to one of the club’s AFL rivals.

FORMER KERRY STAR Tommy Walsh has seen hopes of a dream move to Sydney Swans halted by officials at St. Kilda.

The 23-year-old has yet to make an appearance at senior level in the AFL and though he is a free agent, the Saints do not want him to join their league rivals.

“We understand Sydney’s interest in Tom because he is a developing player and a fine young man, hence we are keen to retain his services,” St Kilda’s Chris Pelchen told The Age newspaper.

The Swans were the club to give Tadhg Kennelly the chance to flourish in the sport – igniting Walsh’s interest in a move there. However, there has also been interest from Richmond and Melbourne – as well as at least one other club – and St Kilda remain anxious to agree a new contract with their starlet.
