IT SEEMS A long time ago now, but the European rugby weekend got under way all the way back on Thursday with the meeting of Sale and Biarritz.

The undoubted highlight of the night was the above touch of comic genius from Andrei Ostrikov, fooling the defender by the simple act of lifting the ball above his six foot six inch frame to help the Sharks to a 33 – 10 win on the opening night of the Amlin Challenge Cup.

Forget running patterns, loops and pick-and-drives. Why doesn’t every team just give it to the tall lad to do this?
