Schalke confirm Man United interest in keeper after defeat to Blues

Old Trafford chiefs target Manuel Neuer. Plus Gary Neville swears at Rooney.

SCHALKE HAS CONFIRMED that Manchester United has shown interest in Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

Schalke chairman Clemens Toennies says an “international agent” called him to register United’s interest in Neuer.

Toennies says when Schalke receive an official offer from United, the Bundesliga club will discuss the issue.

Schalke coach Felix Magath this week said Neuer was not for sale.

Bayern Munich is also known to be interested in Neuer, who still has another season on his contract.

Last night, of course, United’s gallop towards the title was halted by Chelsea who came back from a goal down to win 2-1.

Wayne Rooney struck from outside the box to put the visitors one up at the break. But David Luiz volleyed the equaliser early in the second half and Frank Lampard’s disputed penalty secured three points 10 minutes from time.

Nemanja Vidic was sent off for a second yellow in injury time and he will now miss the meeting with Liverpool this weekend. Suddenly, the title race is interesting again.

But the real highlight was Gary Neville, standing in the away end, swearing at former teammate ‘Wazza’. Will this be the level of his Sky sports punditry should he jump the fence?
