Republic of Ireland team-mate James McCarthy was there for moral support as Coleman tested his mettle at the oche.

Thirteen of the Toffees’ squad have already taken the test with Gareth Barry leading the way on a not-too-shabby 189.

But the midfielder’s place at the top was immediately in danger as Coleman stepped up and landed a treble 20 with his very first dart.

“This is not a practice,” he insisted with smile. “We’re not going again. That’s counting.”
