IT’S BEEN A tough couple of months for Irish defender Sean St Ledger. Between May and November he was without a club after getting released by Leicester and he spoke about how tough being unemployed was for him.
It looked like his career had been given a big boost after Mick McCarthy signed him at Ipswich Town in November but now the defender has been released having never played a single minute for The Tractor Boys.
Speaking to the East Anglia Daily Times, Ipswich boss McCarthy said the reason for St Ledger’s release is that he has two young defenders, Matt Clarke and Elliott Hewitt, and it would be unfair on their development if the Ireland international was kept in their place.
What makes things worse for St Ledger is that it was his birthday yesterday and he turned 30, not a particularly nice milestone to hit if you are worried about your job future.
Hopefully St Ledger finds another club soon, maybe he’ll even link up with Robbie Keane or another club over in America.
