MANCHESTER CITY’S SERGIO Aguero is expected to be sidelined for a month, manager Roberto Mancini confirmed today.

The Argentine stirker, who scored the title-winning goal for City on the final day of last season, was stretchered off the field early on in their 3-2 win over Southampton on Sunday and there were fears that he would be out of action for several months.

However, scans results have shown that the damage done to his knee is not as serious as first thought and Roberto believes the 24-year-old could return in three games’ time for the trip to Stoke City on September 15.

“I don’t think Sergio will be out for long and we are hoping he will be back after the international break which is obviously fantastic news for him and for us,” the club’s website report Mancini as saying.

We were very worried a couple of days ago because we feared he could be out for six months or maybe even more which would have been very bad news.

“It looked like a very strange injury at the time and because it was his knee, we were obviously very concerned so this news is a relief for everybody.”

Aguero is definitely out of this weekend’s fixture against Liverpool while fellow absentees Gareth Barry and Micah Richards are still a couple of weeks away from comebacks.
