'Is the martian good looking?' - TV3 pundit Shane Byrne forgot he was on live television
SHANE BYRNE’S ANALYSIS of South Africa’s World Cup quarter-final win over Wales has got people talking – but for all the wrong reasons.
The former Ireland hooker was caught off guard immediately after the full-time whistle as he was guilty of breaking the first rule of broadcasting – presuming the microphone wasn’t on.
South Africa booked their place in the last four after an enthralling contest at Twickenham and when Tommy Martin looked for Byrne’s reaction, the following conversation took place:
Tommy Martin: If a martian arrived on earth and asked about rugby, would you just show them that game?
Shane Byrne: Depends, is the martian good looking?
Tommy Martin: [Awkward laugh] I’ve never seen a martian… what’s your point?
Shane Byrne: The point is, I’d love a pint.
