Shay given a major injury worry for Trap

Manchester city ‘keeper will learn this week if he’s to go under the knife as that shoulder gives in again.

IRELAND NUMBER ONE Shay Given will discover this week if he needs to undergo surgery after he suffered a recurrence of his shoulder injury.

Giovanni Trapattoni will eagerly await the prognosis with a crucial Euro 2012 qualifier against Macedonia on the horizon.

Given has played just four matches for Manchester City this season but was not on the bench for the emphatic win over Notts County this weekend. Club boss Roberto Mancini didn’t give much away on Saturday:

“Next week he will go to the doctor in London to see if he needs surgery.”

If the operation is required, the Donegal shot-stopper is looking at six months on the sidelines. He’d miss the rest of the Carling Nations Cup and the Macedonia tie.

Coventry City goalkeeper Keiren Westwood is expected to deputise in those games if needed.
