Sligo snap up Pat's ace Danny North

The Grimsby-born striker completed his move to the Showgrounds this morning.

DANNY NORTH IS set for a move out west after agreeing personal terms with Airtricity League runners-up Sligo Rovers.

With the Bit O’Red anxious to strengthen in their quest for a first league title since 1977, the Grimsby-born striker was announced as their first new signing of the close season today.

Defenders Gavin Peers and Alan Keane have also agreed deals to stay with Sligo for the 2012 season while Daryl Horgan and Mark McGoldrick return following loans.

North, 24, caught manager Paul Cook’s eye last season as he bagged 19 goals in all competitions for St Patrick’s Athletic, winning the Inchicore club’s Young Player of the Year award.

Before joining Pat’s last year, North spent six seasons with Grimsby Town as well as a brief spell with non-leaguers Alfreton Town.

With time up on his contract with the Saints, there was speculation that he might return to England before Sligo stepped in to secure his services.

Last week, club captain Richie Ryan confirmed that he would not be returning to the Showgrounds next season after agreeing a deal to join Dundee United in January.
