The Best Thing We Shared

Remember Nacho Novo? As of today, he’s a Glentoran player.

On The Record

I’ve been particularly impressed by young Eoghan. He’s a good size, wants to do well and he’s good in the air. He has been around the first team for a few years and had some loan experience. We were up against tough opponents at the weekend and he coped very well. He has a real in-built brain for football, and he understands the game well. I have never any fears of putting young players in.”

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers says he wouldn’t be afraid to throw Irish youngster Eoghan O’Connell into the deep end ahead of their Champions League third qualifying round tie.

Where We Were Today

Paul Fennessy was at Poolbeg Harbour for the announcement of Ireland’s sailing team for the Olympics, while Kevin O’Brien was chatting to Waterford’s Pauric Mahony at Croke Park as EirGrid was announced as the GAA’s first official timing sponsor.

  • There are two provincial finals down for decision tomorrow night in the Bord Gáis Energy U21 hurling championship: Tipperary v Waterford in Munster (Walsh Park, 7pm) and Antrim v Derry in Ulster (Loughgiel, 7pm).
  • There’s more action too in the third round of the Champions League qualifiers, including Celtic’s first leg away to Astana (3pm).

Showbiz, Baby!

We’re not too sure what Shane Long was at here, but we’re impressed nevertheless…
