The Best Thing We Shared

There were emotional scenes last night as Miami Marlins played their first game since the tragic death of Jose Fernadez on Sunday. Dee Gordon broke down after hitting his first home run of the season before being embraced by team-mates.

Where We Were Today

Fintan O’Toole caught up with former Dublin footballer Ger Brennan and ex-Mayo footballer Enda Varley in the capital to look ahead to this weekend’s All-Ireland senior football final replay.

On The Record

We played two weeks ago with a referee (Éamon Cassidy of Derry) who had never refereed a senior final before. His first ever game was when we played Wexford in the last group game in the championship and that was his first ever time refereeing a senior camogie game. I just can’t understand how the man got it. I actually got sent off that day. My first yellow was fair enough, I’ll say that, but the second looked ridiculous on television.

– Two weeks after they lost to Kilkenny in the All-Ireland senior camogie final, Cork captain Ashling Thompson is still angry about the standard of refereeing in the game.

The Fixture List

There’s more action in the Champions League tomorrow evening, with Arsenal hosting FC Basel and Celtic entertaining Manchester City among the eight games down for decision.
