Open thread: what was the best sports Christmas present you got as a kid?

Wrestling rings, goalposts or table football, what did you get?

TODAY YOU HOPEFULLY unwrapped a few gifts that you love and also gave a couple of presents that will make some people happy. If not, just eat your sorrows away this afternoon.

We were reminiscing in TheScore.ie office about our favourite sports Christmas presents recently, but now we want to hear from you.

These were the selections of some of our writers (the others were too Grinch-like to participate).

I got a set of soccer goalposts when I was 5 or 6. Santa was an amazing man to put them together in the dark and fit them with nets.

Steven O’Rourke

football

Pro Action Football – basically Subbuteo for middle class kids .

A snooker table (but I was always a bit miffed that Santa brought me the one with the plastic pockets rather than the proper ones) and a Euro ’96 edition of Subbuteo. The painstaking skill involved in ironing the cloth prior to a game should not be underestimated.

A wrestling ring and a couple of wrestlers was the highlight, not only of my sports Christmas presents, but possibly of my entire life.

Much like Fintan, Santa brought me a set of goalposts without exception every year (my shots were so powerful they would annually break the crossbar).

Sean Farrell

fifa

Fifa 95. Stuff your outdoor activities.

So they’re our memories but what about you.

What were your favourite sports Christmas presents?
