Meanwhile, Tottenham have signed Pedro Porro in a reported €45 million deal.

TOTTENHAM HAVE announced that they have terminated Matt Doherty’s contract to enable him to join Spanish club Atletico Madrid on a permanent deal.

The Irish international had initially been set to leave the North London club on a temporary basis, but Spurs had already used up the Fifa limit on loan players.

It brings to an end a two-and-half-year spell in North London for the Dubliner.

Doherty, who has linked up with Diego Simeone’s side until the rest of the season, made 71 appearances in all competitions for Spurs, scoring three goals.

He was not the only right wing-back to depart Tottenham today, with Djed Spence joining French club Rennes on loan until the end of the season, having only joined the club in the summer.

Those moves paved the way for the arrival of right-back Pedro Porro from Sporting CP.

The 23-year-old, who spent time as a youngster with Man City, has one Spain cap.

He joins Tottenham on loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season for a reported fee of €45 million.
