ASTON VILLA’S STILIYAN Petrov celebtrated what was an extra special birthday at the club’s Bodymoor Heith training ground earlier today.
The Bulgarian, who turned 33, has had a nightmare couple of months since being diagnosed with leukaemia back in March.
New Villans manager Paul Lambert confirmed that he will remain club captain this season while he undergoes treatment to fight the illness and there was an emotional return to pre-season training when the players and staff surprised Petrov with a birthday cake.
“It has been great, the support I have received,” he told AVTV.
I want to thank everybody for their support. It has been magnificent. I had a tough three months but I’m over the hurdle at the moment.
“I’m feeling better now, I’m back home for a bit and I’m enjoying my time seeing friends and enjoying my time with the family so it has been ok so far.”
