Stringer gets call up as cover for O'Leary

Tomás O’Leary given time to recover from persistent back problem ahead of trip to Edinburgh this weekend.

PETER STRINGER HAS been called up the Ireland squad ahead of the Six Nations clash with Scotland in Edinburgh on Sunday.

The Munster scrumhalf will act as cover for provincial club-mate Tomás O’Leary who has been struggling with a back problem.

According to the IRFU: ‘O’Leary continues to feel the effects of a back spasm that had troubled him during the Ireland team preparations for the second round of the RBS Six Nations Championship against France’.

O’Leary came through the game but has been unable to fully shake off the injury following treatment last week after it flared up post match .

Stringer will remain with the squad until the Ireland medical team are happy with the fitness of O’Leary. He has been given another 24 hours to see if the symptoms persist.

Declan Kidney added eight players to the 22-man match-day squad yesterday.
