THE RACE TO sign Gary Cahill continues today, with Liverpool set to offer £10m plus David Ngog and Raheem Sterling on loan in order to capture his signature.
It’s not really much of a race now that I think about – more like a slovenly jog, given the excessive length of time it has taken Cahill to move club.
Elsewhere, it is being reported that last year’s Player of the Season Scott Parker will be going to… QPR? Maybe it was just a sentimental choice after all.
Meanwhile, his soon-to-be-ex teammate Carlton Cole will now be giving Fulham’s team physio sleepless nights.
And in other QPR-related news, they have also been signed, so to speak, with Tony Fernandes buying a 66% stake in the club.
Arsenal target Scott Dann will become ineligible for the Champions League group stages if he plays for Birmingham in the Europa League tonight. Then again, it might secretly delight Wenger, who needs an excuse for continually putting off his bid to sign an established Premier League defender.
Finally, when Franz Beckenbauer compares a player to Lionel Messi, he can’t be half bad, can he? Man United, for one, have seemingly believed the hype and are set to bid for Mario Goetze.
Ill-advised prospective deal of the day: Arsenal want to sign Mauro Zarate – a player who is currently being kept out of the Lazio team by Djibril Cisse. Something tells me he may not be Wenger’s smartest ever signing.
Advised prospective deal of the day: Leeds are apparently in the running to sign Roque Santa Cruz – the signing would be quite a coup if the striker performs anything like he did in his Blackburn days.
