The Morning Score: Friday

Another high-profile defection from Mickey Harte’s panel, the Irish in Europe and another day of cycling and golf. Phew!

1. #RED HAND Owen Mulligan has reportedly quit the Tyrone senior football squad.

The Irish Independent reports that the forward is “believed to be disillusioned at his failure to cement a permanent place”.

2. #OPEN Day Two is under way at Sandwich this morning after an intriguing first round yesterday.

Again, we’ll go hole-by-hole. The early starters have been rewarded with calm conditions. Keep up to date with live scores here.

3. #FAI Giovanni Trapattoni will today name his squad for the August 10 friendly clash with Croatia.

It will be very interesting to see if those missing last time out are included. We’ll have it as it’s announced.

4. #LE TOUR It was the first real climb of the Tour de France yesterday as the peloton scaled the Col du Tourmalet.

Sammy Sanchez took the stage win in a fantastic finish. Today? The Tour remains in the Pyrenées as it travels 152.5km from Pau to Lourdes.

5. #EUROPE Both Irish sides lost on their travels yesterday. First St Pat’s went down 2-1 in Kazakhstan leaving it all to play for in Inchicore next week.

Last night however, Bohemians were beaten 2-0 by Olimpija Ljubljana.

6. #YOUTUBE Yesterday we brought you some of our favourite clips from the week. One we forgot to include was Kenny Powers’ new K-Swiss add – warning – not for the easily offended or those with desks next to the boss.
