The Morning Score: Thursday

United cruise into the Champions League final, Follow The Plan claims the Punchestown Gold Cup, and German football legend Lothar Matthaus throws a bit of a strop.

1. #CHAMPIONS LEAGUE As expected, Manchester United booked their place in the European Cup decider with a comfortable 4-1 (6-1 agg.) win over Schalke 04 in Old Trafford last night.

Darron Gibson was the star of the first half, playing Antonio Valencia in for the opener before following up with a goal of his own. Jose Manuel Jurado pulled one back for the visitors in the 35th minute before Anderson completed the rout with second-half brace.

We had minute-by-minute coverage of last night’s action, so you can remind yourself of the best bits here.

2. #PUNCHESTOWN Kauto Star was pulled up as Follow The Plan won a dramatic renewal of the Punchestown Gold Cup for trainer Oliver McKiernan and jockey Tom Doyle yesterday.

Mark Hobbs will have his preview column on the site later.

3. #REIGN IN SPAIN? Andy Murray made a shaky start to his Madrid Open campaign with an unconvincing 6-4 3-6 6-0 second-round victory over Gilles Simon yesterday.

4. #BOYS IN GREEN Giovanni Trapattoni named an extended squad for the upcoming Nations Cup and Euro 2012 games yesterday.

Wolves’ Stephen Ward is in but Wes Hoolahan – who hoped to top promotion to the Premier League with a call-up – is ignored. Check out the details here.

5. #EAST IS BEST Leinster yesterday announced the signing of winger Fionn Carr and lock Damian Browne from Connacht.

Both players have agreed one-year deals with the Heineken Cup finalists; they join their new side in the summer.

6. #VIDEO NASTY German football legend Lothar Matthaus was not a happy camper at the Camp Nou on Tuesday night.

Watch as he storms out of the studio. Someone forgot his danish, I presume.
