1. #IRISH OPEN We get going in Killarney this morning. Yesterday An Taoiseach Enda Kenny played a round with US Open champion Rory McIlroy in the pro-am.

Afterwards,  McIlroy revealed he’d selected Graeme McDowell to represent Ireland with him at the World Cup in China.

2. #GAA Mayo yesterday named their starting XV ahead of the All-Ireland SFC quarter-final with Cork this weekend.

James Horan has drafted in two new faces with Ger Cafferkey coming in for Alan Feeney in the full-back line while Garrymore man Enda Varley replaces Jason Doherty at corner-forward.

3. #CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Shamrock Rovers lost their Champions League qualifier 1-0 in Copenhagen last night. 

4. #RACES The 5-1 favourite Blazing Tempo, with Paul Townend on board, won the Galway Plate at Ballybrit yesterday.

Elsewhere, superstar miler Frankel took advantage of an eight-pound weight allowance to win the Qipco Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, storming to a comfortable five-length victory over last year’s champion, Canford Cliffs.

5. #DOWN Ireland dropped two places in FIFA’s world rankings which were released yesterday.

Giovanni Trapattoni’s side are now down to 33rd.
