The Morning Score: Thursday

We’re past the half-way mark in the week. Take a couple of minutes to celebrate by catching up on the morning’s sports headlines.

1. #EURO 2012 All eyes will be on Krakow this lunchtime as the Republic of Ireland join seven other names in the hat for the Euro 2012 play-off draw.

Ireland’s 2-1 win over Armenia on Tuesday means that they have been seeded, leaving Turkey, Bosnia, Montenegro and Estonia as potential opponents.

If you can’t get yourself to a TV at 12pm, join us right here for a liveblog of the draw (minus the boring parts).

2. #RWC2011 Wales coach Warren Gatland has been forced to make one change to his starting XV ahead of Saturday’s World Cup semi-final against France in Auckland.

Preferred fly-half Rhys Priestland has failed to recover from a shoulder injury, so James Hook comes in in his place.

3. #BENNY DUNNE Tipp wing-forward Benny Dunne called time on his inter-county hurling career yesterday at the age of 31.

The Toomevara clubman was a mainstay of the Premier panel for the past 10 years, helping the county to the Liam McCarthy Cup in 2010.

4. #AIRTRICITY LEAGUE It’s D-Day in the Airtricity League Premier Division as third-place Derry City travel to table-toppers Shamrock Rovers in a game that could decide the destination of this year’s title.

A win for Rovers would leave them needing just one win from their remaining two games to retain their crown, while three points for Derry tonight and in their game in hand against Galway on Sunday would see them leapfrog the Hoops at the summit.

Kick-off in Tallaght Stadium is at 7pm.

5. #BASEBALL The Texas Rangers are just one game away from a return to the World Series after Nelson Cruz’s 11th-inning home run gave them a 7-3 win over the Detroit Tigers last night and put them 3-1 up in the series.

In the National League, the St Louis Cardinals took a 2-1 series lead over the Milwaukee Brewers. Both series resume this evening.
