1. #BOYS IN GREEN Ireland beat Italy at their own game last night, seeing off Italy 2-0 in Liege.

2. #US OPEN Tiger Woods let his Twitter followers know first last night: he’s out of the US Open.

The former world No 1 is out because of lingering issues with his left leg, leaving him uncertain how soon he can resume his pursuit of Jack Nicklaus’ record for major titles.

It will be the first time Woods has missed the US Open since 1994, when he had just graduated high school.

3. #PITCH INVASION The Croke Park pitch was taken up yesterday ahead of Take That’s appearance on the 18 and 19 June.

4. #TWITTER ROW Laois footballer MJ Tierney will appear on RTÉ’s midweek GAA programme the Committee Room.

The Parnells man’s Twitter stream was discussed by the program’s panel on Sunday evening afterhe tweeted the message “#disillusioned” following Justin McNulty’s surprising decision to leave him out of the starting XV for Sunday’s defeat against Dublin.

He’s set to defend himself to Marty Morrissey this evening.

5. #HEINEKEN CUP The draw for next season’s European Cup was made at Twickenham yesterday.

Ulster will feel they’re up against; English Premiership side Leicester and big-spending French outfit Clermont are joined in the Ravenhill side’s group with Aironi. Champions Leinster will also face Glasgow and Montpellier, Munster have Northampton while Connacht host Toulouse, Harlequins and Gloucester to Galway.
