The Morning Score: Wednesday

It’s the morning after the night before for Irish football fans. Here’s what you need to know.

1. #EURO2012 Ireland last night qualified for the play-offs with a 2-1 win over Armenia at the Aviva Stadium.

Richard Dunne bundled over the second goal after the visitors gifted an own goal. Kevin Doyle will miss the first leg of the play-offs after he was sent off for two yellow cards.

Trap’s side will now face one of Montenegro, Bosnia, Estonia and Turkey; the draw is tomorrow in Warsaw.

2. #GAA John Allen was last night ratified as the new Limerick senior hurling manager last night.

The St Finbarr’s man succeeds clubmate Donal O’Grady, as he did with Cork after their All-Ireland win in 2004.

In Clare meanwhile, Davy Fitzgerald was ratified as the manager of the Banner on a three-year term.

3. #GAA Central Council last night agreed changes to the hurling league system.

Officials have opted for two top tiers of six which means Kilkenny, Dublin, Waterford, Tipperary, Galway and Cork will play in Division 1A.

Wexford, Offaly, Limerick Clare, Antrim and Laois are in Division 1B.

4. #RWC2011 Ireland’s World Cup squad arrived back in Ireland yesterday afternoon to a very warm reception.

5. #RULES SERIES Anthony Tohill yesterday named his first 18-man squad for this month’s trip to Australia for the International Rules Series.

Stephen Cluxton will skipper the pael, though he will not have any media duties. Former Sydney Swans star Tadhg Kennelly has also been included.
